Developing Two New Club Bali Resorts

Progress Report

By H. Ruslan Morris, MA, Club Bali Sr. Advisor

Our most important mission is to provide you, our members, with your own Club Bali developed resorts in your favorite locations.
What's so special about a Club Bali developed resort? Before answering that, I'd like to tell you about a speech that I gave at the RCI Asia-Pacific Conference in Bangkok in 1998. The subject was “Timeshare projects for different nationalities”.
One of the examples that I used was bedroom configuration; should a developer provide twin beds or king sized beds? I explained “it depends on the nationality of your members, European and Australian couples usually prefer king sized beds, Japanese couples prefer twin beds, the husband in one and the wife in the other. Indonesians also prefer twin beds, two people in each bed. Scandinavians prefer king sized beds with lots of couples in one bed.”
A joke of course, but with some truth to it. When I holiday with my Indonesian extended family there are usually about 15 people in three cars. Pre Club Bali we were never able to find comfortable accommodations. Hotel rooms were not suitable; although I once witnessed 18 people of all ages leaving a room in the Horisen Hotel in Ancol! Villas in the mountains are better, but typically not designed to cater for an extended family. Kitchens, if they have them are poorly

outfitted, you have to bring your own towels, there’s no service and what do you do for drinking water?

Club Bali resorts are developed to suit the needs of Indonesian families, large and small. At Java Highlands Resort I talked to  members  that were

occupying connecting one and two bedroom apartments. There were thirty (30) people of all ages! I asked them if they were comfortable.

They said “lumayan” (reasonably comfortable). Although more are available upon request they did bring extra dishes and towels. We cater for six in a one bedroom apartment and ten in a two bedroom. We try to find out what you want and provide it if we can; for example, our units are equipped with rice cookers and 19 litre bottles of drinking water are supplied.
We’re in the process of developing new resorts for Club Bali members in the mountains at Lembang, West Java and on the beach in Karang Bolong, Banten. The land has been acquired and the basic designs are done. We've already obtained the license for the Karang Bolong resort and the license for Lembang should be forthcoming this month. (July 2003) The Bupati, H. Obar Sobarna SIP and his team recently inspected our land in Lembang and that's when we took the photo. (above right).

Both resorts will feature spectacular views and comfortable apartments

suitable for both Indonesian and foreign families. One bedroom apartments will have beds for up to 10 people and the two bedroomers with 3 bathrooms will sleep up to 16. All apartments will have complete kitchens, private whirlpool baths and all of the features that you have come to enjoy in Club Bali accommodations. In the Lembang resort you will stay in villas, while Karang Bolong resort will have two ten story buildings with each apartment having a private terrace with ocean views.
As a special benefit, the Lembang resort will have a room with real snow for you and your children to enjoy. The Karang Bolong resort will feature a fun filled water park. We’re pushing for soft openings of both resorts late this year or early in 2004.
It's a great thrill developing new resorts for Club Bali members and we want you to be involved. Tell us what you want in your new resorts by completing the attached survey and returning it to us by mail or fax.
We’ll keep you informed regarding progress with your new resorts via our Newsletter and bulletins.

resorts we have available.
Perhaps the biggest advantage to members using these is that the cost for exchange at US$25.00 is significantly less than using RCI’s facility. The second category was created in response to a strong demand for ‘drive-to’ accommodation with our local market.
To cater we arranged discount acco-mmodation agreements with strategically located Indonesian hotels and resorts and made them available to members using either CB$ or cash, if preferred at a special discount price.

Club Bali has no equity holding in any of these resorts or hotels and as agreements expire either new ones are negotiated. or the resorts replaced with others of similar calibre.
It’s worth noting that when Club Bali started in 1998 we had agreements with just a few affiliated resorts; now we have a combined total of close to 80 worldwide.
So before you think RCI exchange, check our affiliated resorts first; it can only save you money. .

A number of members have asked recently about our growing list of ‘affiliated’ resorts.
Affiliated resorts are integral to our self contained Club Bali concept and fall into two categories:
Firstly, overseas holiday ownership clubs and resorts where reciprocal usage agreements allow you to exchange a week of accommodation at the Jayakarta Bali Residence for a week of similar accommodation at any of the 80 or so
